Hackathon focused on RFID, NFC and BLE mash-ups adds leader in auto identification solutions to its technology mentors, leading edge hardware availability
November 11, 2015, Dallas, Texas — TrackHack: The Proximity ID Hackathon, the world’s first and only hackathon focused exclusively on proximity technologies like radio frequency identification (RFID), near field communication (NFC) and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), announced today the addition of Omni-ID as a Gold sponsor for its new, global hackathon series focused on proximity ID technology solutions.
Along with partner Flomio, AccelerateNFC created TrackHack: The Proximity ID Hackathon to address the cross-over and interconnection among various proximity technologies used for mobile solutions. These technologies — RFID, NFC, BLE — are the basis of proximity ID solutions and will play a pivotal role in the Internet of Things (IoT).
Known for consistently setting industry standards, Omni-ID is the original inventor and patent-holder of the on-metal tag and the e-label solution, ProVIEW. In 2012, the company launched the world’s first visual tagging system – providing not only the ability to track assets; but dynamic, readable instructions right on the tag, completely changing the auto-identification industry landscape. Omni-ID is the leading developer and global supplier of high performance, highly durable, passive, active and visual e-label tags. Omni-ID systems improve workflow, enable asset tracking and management, and drive material flows for Fortune 500 companies around the globe.
As mobile becomes even more pervasive, so does the demand for creative mash-ups of these proximity-based technologies. TrackHack is the first ever proximity ID technology event where hackers and developers can access ALL proximity ID tech and do what they do best: create, innovate and disrupt. The hackathon focuses on solutions addressing security, marketing and advertising, social interactions, gaming, mobile payments, as well as track and trace. Participants will compete for cash and prizes and winners will be invited to join the next AccelerateNFC class, a competitive program where selected companies participate in an intensive 12-week mentoring program designed to provide access to resources normally beyond the reach of early stage companies.
“Omni-ID is a great addition to TrackHack,” said Robert Sabella, co-founder and CEO of AccelerateNFC. “Being able to give developers access to some of the best proximity ID hardware on the market from an organization who has implemented solutions for Fortune 500 companies is a huge win for our hackathon participants.”
According to Ed Nabrotzky, Chief Solutions Officer of Omni-ID, “We’re truly excited to be participating in TrackHack this year and providing developers access to our ProVIEW hardware and software. The event provides an exceptional opportunity for developers and companies alike to showcase just how seamless it can be to implement IoT based products. It’s events such as this that serve to de-mystify adoption of IoT and instead highlight the benefits and simplicity it can provide.”
Current TrackHack sponsors and supporting organizations include: Interact Ventures, NFC Forum, NFC Bootcamp, Blue Bite, RFID 24/7, RAIN RFID, Serialio, U Grok It, HID Global, Omni-ID, Skute, Cellotape, University of Texas Dallas, with more joining regularly.
Registration is now open for TrackHack, November 20-22, 2015, in London at London Campus, a Google Space, and March 11-13, 2016, in Austin. Join in the hack and win cash and prizes. Visit www.trackhack.org for more details and to register for this exciting hackathon.
